1 serviceBuilt for DevOps & Modern Container Workflows
Why developers rely on Devsload for converting terminal container commands into Compose manifests.
Full Docker Flag Coverage
Converts ports (-p), volumes (-v), env vars (-e, --env-file), restart policies, networks, devices, resource limits, and commands seamlessly.
Multi-Service Support
Paste multiple docker run commands separated by newlines or && to compose a complete multi-container stack into a single docker-compose.yml.
Multiline & Shell Safe
Handles escaped bash newlines (\), PowerShell backticks (`), and single or double quote arguments with embedded spaces.
100% Client-Side & Private
Execution happens entirely inside your browser JavaScript. Secrets, API keys, and internal IP addresses never touch any remote server.
How to Convert Docker Run to Docker Compose
Simple 4-step workflow to migrate CLI flags into permanent compose configuration.
1. Paste Your Command
Copy any docker run command from a README, tutorial, or terminal history and paste it into the left editor.
2. Automatic Parsing
The parser instantly extracts the image name, port mappings, volumes, environment variables, and container options in real time.
3. Inspect Formatted YAML
Review the generated version 3.8 Docker Compose manifest with correct 2-space indentation and quoted strings.
4. Copy or Download
Click "Copy Compose YAML" to paste into your IDE, or "Download .yml" to save docker-compose.yml directly into your project folder.
Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know about Docker Run commands and Docker Compose manifests.
What is the difference between docker run and docker-compose.yml?
docker run is an imperative CLI command that starts a single container with specific arguments. docker-compose.yml is a declarative configuration file that defines multiple services, persistent networks, and volumes in a version-controlled file that can be started simultaneously with docker compose up -d.
Can I convert multiple docker run commands at the same time?
Yes! Simply paste multiple docker run commands separated by a newline or &&. The converter will automatically group them into separate services under the services: block in a single docker-compose.yml file.
How does the converter name each service?
If your command contains --name <name>, that name will be sanitized and used for both container_name and the service key. If --name is omitted, the service key is automatically derived from the Docker image repository name (for example, redis:alpine becomes service redis:).
Why are -d and --rm flags omitted in the generated Compose file?
In Docker Compose, detached mode is controlled by passing the -d flag when running the command (docker compose up -d). Container removal (--rm) is handled by docker compose down. These flags do not belong inside the service definition YAML.
Are environment variables and secret tokens safe with this tool?
Absolutely. The conversion logic runs entirely on your local device via client-side JavaScript. No network requests are made, and your environment variables, database passwords, or auth keys are never transmitted to our servers.
