Wireless network planning
WiFi Access Point Capacity Calculator
Estimate how many active devices your WiFi network can support and how many access points you need.
Usable device capacity
Capacity planning
How the WiFi capacity estimate works
Estimate practical AP capacity
The selected WiFi generation and channel width set a conservative active-device target per access point.
Check internet bandwidth
Internet speed is divided by average device demand so the WAN connection cannot be ignored.
Plan enough access points
The recommendation rounds expected active devices up to the next whole access point.
Deployment scenarios
Useful for networks of every size
Home, cafe, and office
Avoid slowdowns when many phones, laptops, TVs, and IoT devices are active together.
Hotel and school
Plan shared coverage for rooms, classrooms, halls, and busy common areas.
ISP hotspot
Estimate subscriber density while accounting for backhaul bandwidth.
How many devices can one WiFi access point handle?
A practical target is often 30–60 active devices per AP, depending on WiFi generation, channel plan, device behavior, and required performance.
How many access points do I need for 300 devices?
At a target of 40 active devices per AP, divide 300 by 40 and round up: 8 access points.
Does faster internet increase WiFi device capacity?
It removes a bandwidth bottleneck, but radio airtime, interference, coverage, and AP density can still limit the network.
